Windows Update causes Skype’s 2 day outage
Skype today made an announcement on it’s website today explaining the cause of it’s recent 2 day outage. The cause was due to Windows Update, or more specifically “The disruption was triggered by a massive restart of our users’ computers across the globe within a very short timeframe as they re-booted after receiving a routine set of patches through Windows Update.
The high number of restarts affected Skype’s network resources. This caused a flood of log-in requests, which, combined with the lack of peer-to-peer network resources, prompted a chain reaction that had a critical impact.”
The good news is that Skype is back up and running as good as ever and that this downtime was not caused by any malicious activity so no user data was ever at risk.

What a load of garbage. Yeah all computers in different timezones rebooted at close to th same time. C’mon! Do that many people have fully automatic Windows updates running?
Personally, I have other things running which I would not want an Automatic update to stuff up by rebooting my computer.
